Birth experience Pieter

On the advice of a very good friend, I and my husband decided to take a course in hypnobirthing.
It would help us make delivery an easier and less painful experience. My husband in particular was a bit skeptical before the first lesson, partly because he did not know what hypnobirthing was all about.
But during the first lesson the added value of the course became clear and my husband and I were immediately enthusiastic.
During the remainder of my pregnancy, my husband and I did various exercises to master proper breathing and visualization. These resources would help us during labor. Like
Esther George says, you are not going to run a marathon without proper preparation and practice. So it takes some discipline to do the exercises regularly. But do it, because the result is great!
One of the components that comes up during the course is drawing up a birth plan.
This contains all your wishes regarding the delivery. For example, my husband and I wanted to give birth in hospital. That was our wish before the start of the course. After 2 lessons and through the exercises, we got the confidence that a home birth is also possible and that this can have great added value to a beautiful birth of our baby.
However, due to a medical complication, I gave birth in the hospital.
In the hospital (Maastricht UMC +) we discussed our birth plan with the doctors. They were very open to this and discussed with us per point and per wish what was and what was not possible due to medical complications.
This has given us a lot of confidence. Because of this I was able to apply the basic principles of hypnobirthing during my delivery. This allowed me to fully concentrate on my breathing and visualization without being constantly disturbed by medical staff. I was also able to apply birth breathing. This means that you do not let your baby be born through active pressing, but through deep, concentrated breathing to the abdomen. The doctors had not seen this before and were impressed.
I can recommend hypnobirthing to all moms and dads to be!
It has made me look back on a beautiful and special birth of my first child Pieter.
